Professional Irrigation System Winterization in Vancouver, North Van & Burnaby

Protect your residential or commercial irrigation system from severe winter freeze damage with professional blowout and winterization services from IRRICON Irrigation Solutions. Servicing home and business owners across Vancouver, North Van and Burnaby, we ensure your outdoor piping, backflow preventer, and zone valves remain completely dry and damage-free all winter long.

Why Winterization Is Essential for Local Systems

While coastal British Columbia experiences milder winters than the interior, temperatures in South Surrey and White Rock regularly drop below freezing. Standing water left inside underground lines, valve manifolds, or backflow assemblies expands as it freezes, leading to:

  • Cracked Poly and PVC Piping: Concealed underground leaks that waste water and ruin landscaping come spring.

  • Shattered Zone Valves & Manifolds: Frozen water splits plastic valve bodies, causing costly component replacements.

  • Broken Backflow Preventers: Internal brass and rubber components rupture under expansion pressure, triggering expensive certification or replacement requirements.

  • Damaged Drip Lines: Micro-tubing and drippers freeze, burst, or clog when residual water remains trapped.

A simple, professional winter blowout costs a fraction of spring repair bills and guarantees peace of mind throughout the winter months.

Our Step-by-Step Winterization Process

We do not simply turn off the main water valve. IRRICON delivers a thorough, end-to-end shutoff process tailored to local soil, slope, and system requirements:

  1. Main Water Isolation: Safely shut off the primary irrigation supply valve and tag the system.

  2. Controller Deactivation: Power down or set your controller (Hunter, Rain Bird, Toro, etc.) to "Off" or "Rain Mode" to preserve custom program settings.

  3. Controlled Air Blowout: Connect a high-volume, regulated air compressor to your system's main blow-out port. Each zone is cycled individually to purge all remaining water through pop-ups, rotors, and micro-drip networks.

  4. Backflow Assembly Drain-Down: Open check valves and test cocks on your backflow preventer (RP, DCVA, or PVB) to drain residual water and protect internal seals.

  5. Manifold & Valve Drainage: Manually bleed low-point drains and valve boxes to ensure zero standing water remains in valve bodies.
